In celebration of our upcoming one-year anniversary and the arrival of Baby Brennan, Adam and I decided to put the long Labor Day weekend to good use by planning a trip to northern Minnesota. On Friday night, we made it as far as Superior, Wisconsin, where we stayed in a hotel to rest for the final jog of our trip.

Early the next morning, we hit the road along scenic Highway 61 along Lake Superior, headed toward Grand Marais. Let me tell you, the view was gorgeous the whole way up! You could see the water seem to go on forever!

We made a short stop at Gooseberry Falls to take pictures and do the whole tourist thing... it was well worth it! They were beautiful, though Maggie didn't want to get too close! Let me tell you, that is a lot of stairs for a seven month pregnant woman! Adam helped by pushing me up when we were ready to leave. What a guy!

Once in Grand Marais, we stopped to make ourselves some lunch and stretch our legs. Then, we hopped back in the car and took the Gunflint Trail (a wooded two-lane roadway toward the Boundary Waters Canoe Area). Here is were civilization really started to drop off.
After a total trip of just over 8 hours, we finally stopped at the East Bearskin Lake Campground! It was beautiful, remote, quiet, and had no running water or electricity. We really roughed it out there! We unpacked, rented a canoe and spent the rest of the weekend cooking food over the fire, taking in some sun on the lake, and catching small mouth bass from our canoe. We never once heard a phone ring or worried about getting any work done back home... it was heaven!

Check out the photo slideshow at the bottom of the page for a peek at the beauty we were surrounded by... oh and to see how lazy Maggie was all weekend!
